Title: FOSS of Machine Learning and its Role in Shaping the Future

Bio: Younis began his career working for Ministry of Education in 2004 as a Programmer then applications development team leader and after that as Acting Head of Database Administration section. Switching sectors his next role was with Oman Medical Specialty Board, in designing solutions, developing and implementing software applications and leading their IT department as assistant manager. Whilst working he was also studying a Masters in IT with Coventry University and Middle East College, graduating in 2013. At this point he secured a position as Application Development Administrator for Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC). In less than three years and working in two other roles Younis is now Head of Applications Development. added to that he is now a PhD researcher in Machine Learning in Sultan Qaboos University, computer science departmen.

Dr. Mohamed Al Faiurz, Assistant Professor, College of Economics and Political Science, Sultan Qaboos University

Title: Open Source for Cyber Security

Bio: Dr. Mohamed Al Faiurz received his MSc degree in Information Technology (Web Applications) from Queensland University of Technology, Australia in 2003. He was awarded Ph.D. degree in Computing Science in 2011, from University of Glasgow, UK. He is currently an assistant professor in the college of Economics and Political Science, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman.
Dr. Mohamed Al Fairuz research spans technical and policy issues of web applications development, including security, usability, scalability, maintainability, and acceptability. Currently, he is interested in enabling multi-channel authentication mechanisms on web-applications. The main area of focus is online banking but the same methods and tools are often applied to other web-applications as well. He is also currently working on forming an e-assessing solution that would greatly enhance the assessments delivered to students in the universities. Prior to joining Sultan Qaboos University, Al Fairuz worked at the Y2K task force and the High Committee for National Day.

Mohammed Jedad, Head Section Of Meteorology Devices Maintenance, Public Authority Civil Aviation (PACA)

Title: Open Source at the heart of Oman’s meteorology

Bio: Mohammad is leading Section Of Meteorology Devices Maintenance in Salalah Airport, Public Authority Civil Aviation (PACA) since 2016 and before that he was computer engineer on same department for 5 years period. Mohammed is FOSS enthusiast and he was involved in many GNU/Linux OS capacity building activities within PACA.

Matthew Treinish, Open Source Developer Advocate, IBM

Title: Building a Better Thermostat

Bio: Matthew has been working on and contributing to Open Source software for most of his career. He is a long time OpenStack contributor and a former member of the OpenStack TC (Technical Committee) and was previously the PTL (project technical lead) of the OpenStack community's QA program. Matthew currently works for IBM team working to make Open Source software better for everyone. He has previously been a speaker at linux.conf.au, OpenStack summits, LinuxCons Japan, China, and North America, Open Source Summit Europe, SeaGL, OpenWest, and FOSSASIA.

Abhas Abhinav Founder, DeepRoot GNU/Linux

Title: Building an IoT solution using only Free Software

Bio: Abhas is the founder of DeepRoot GNU/Linux, an eighteen-year-old Free Software Business that provides support, services and solutions for Free Software deployments. DeepRoot builds mail servers and clusters, provides hosting & support for a variety of Free Software tools and helps organisations of all sizes choose self-hosting for their infrastructure in general. They have enabled more than 500 organisations build their infrastructure using free software. They also have special initiatives for educational institutions to help them integrate Free Software into wider aspects of their operations. As the founder of a one-person company called Mostly Harmless, Abhas builds free/libre hardware such as hackable mechanical keyboards and hardware to build self-hosted IoT and private cloud solutions. He also offers strategies for using and distributing software and hardware with freedom. Abhas is a member of the board of the Free Software Foundation, India and has been a participant in the community in India for almost 20 years. He advises colleges, govt. / defence organisations, non-profits and start-ups on using, building and adopting free software as a “way of life”. He shares his thoughts and experiences at abhas.io

Mazin AlSaadi, Co-Founder and CTO of Mazad Oman

Title: FOSS in Entrepreneurship (Mazad Oman Experience)

Bio: Mazin Al-Saadi is a Co-Founder and the CTO of Mazad Oman Company. Certified in Cloud Professional / Architect and LPIC-1. He is working with integration team in ITA and with the team he successfully migrate all eOman integration platform completely to open source technologies. eOman integration is the platform used to connect all government systems in Oman. Mazad Oman platform won the first place in the Oman summer of code program in its second edition. Mazad Oman is Omani company working in the field of information technology founded in January 2015.

Mohammed Al-Ajmi, Telecom engineer and interested in information security

Title: Digital Privacy and Open Source Software

Bio: Mohammed Al-Ajmi is a telecom engineer who is working in Telecommunications sector since 2014. He has B.S of engineering from Sultan Qaboos University in Telecommunications and he is interested in information security areas. He has achieved many of a professional international certifications and he is a certified ethical hacker from The International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (E council). Mohammed is a well known locally as speaker in the areas of information security and Digital privacy and his initiatives are accessible through the social media.

Alya Al-Shanfari, Founder and CEO, Beennova

Title: How to get started with Machine Learning with Open Source

Bio: Alya Al-Shanfari, a computer science graduate from the German University of technology (GUtech), founder and CEO of ‘Beennova’ and the Google Developer Group Muscat founder. Alya is also one of the advisory board members for The National Youth Program for Skill Development by the Diwan of Royal Court.

Ali AlRubkhi, CEO of Amal Technology Company

Title: ECommerce Open Source Application: Experience and Issues

Bio: Ali is the CEO of Amal Technology Company. The company won the first place in the Oman summer of code in its second edition. Amal Technology team used the free and open source software to develop an e-commerce and shipping application called: iTrans.
